Located within the grounds of the National Zoo and Aquarium, in the centre of Canberra, Jamala Wildlife Lodge offers a variety of opulent safari-style suites and bungalows that not only boast sublime African art and décor but are also surrounded by some of the world’s most magnificent animals, some of which are endangered.

Stay and play

Jamala Wildlife Lodge offers an unprecedented opportunity to connect with and learn about the world’s most amazing animals, which makes it a truly remarkable overnight, luxury experience. Guests can choose to spend the night only metres away from lions, bears or tigers in a Jungle Bungalow, or relax on the balcony of a Giraffe Treehouse as you marvel at the size and beauty of your new giant neighbour. Or why not stay in the uShaka Lodge, which offers guests the opportunity to immerse themselves in luxurious surrounds while enjoying the company of the curious and captivating colobus monkeys, and graceful inhabitants of the 200,000-litre shark tank. This incredible and immersive experience also treats guests to two amazing, exclusive zoo tours that encounter some of the zoo’s rarest, largest and most dangerous inhabitants. All-inclusive fine dining featuring sunset canapés and drinks, gourmet African-styled meal with fellow guests and a freshly prepared breakfast are the perfect complement to this once-in-a-lifetime accommodation adventure. Set in one of the world’s most liveable cities, Jamala Wildlife Lodge offers travellers and local animal lovers the most unique and luxurious accommodation option Canberra has to offer.

Canberra’s National Zoo and Aquarium has officially opened a new open-range extension, which is home to a host of species including white rhinos, maned wolves, zebras, cheetahs, giraffes, elks and much more. The site is particularly unique as it features a combined aquarium, metropolitan zoo and an easily walked open-range section, which more than doubles the size of the existing zoo. It is one of the few open-range sections of a zoo found in a city environment, as most are located in country areas. Visitors are able to see many young animals including zebra foals, elk calves, adolescent lemurs and a baby siamang, most of which have previously been off display to visitors until now. Other animals within the zoo include white and tawny lions, tigers, snow leopards, cheetahs, bears, monkeys, meerkats, painted dogs and many more. The much-anticipated expansion is not only great for guests but also allows the zoo to expand its work with critical breeding programs for endangered animals. As well as amazing animals, the new area features stunning themed landscapes including waterfalls, a vast fern gully and beautiful picnic and BBQ areas.
