WILDFest wilderness retreat

WILDFest, glamping, NSW, Australia

A sense of beautiful remoteness is guaranteed at WILDFest, Australia’s first pop-up wilderness retreat.

The inaugural three-day experience included glamping on the grounds of Joadja, where the crumbling ruins of the historic village in NSW’s Southern Highlands remind us this was once a thriving mining town.

The glampsite, located on a well-worn carpet of tussock grass surrounded by silver birch trees, comprises bell tents fitted with real beds, linen sheets and luxurious throws.

Glampers arriving at WILDFest are offered a welcome cocktail before being whisked away by golf cart to chill out at a communal tent, where snacks and cool drinks are provided.

Our favourite amenities include the posh ivy-clad Port-A- Loo, Bare, Body & Beauty products, bamboo bath sheets and fabulous fire pod.

The three-day program included guided options such as Bush Yoga, a Hike & Harvest to the top of the escarpment where deckchairs and wine await, a massage in a Wild Bush Spa and Sundowners at the Waterhole.

The remote glamping experience also included a seven-course feast prepared by chef Damien Monley (ex Aria) featuring local food and wine served under a sky pin-cushioned with stars.

Squint your eyes and the formal native feast may well resemble a whimsical 19th century oil painting thanks to the provision of top hats and tails and long gloves and tiaras for guests.

Fact: Budding divas can rest assured their demands for gravity-fed mountain water will be met during WILDFest as the event is the incarnation of an idea by creative professional Amanda Fry, who first brought the Kardashians to Australia.
