These two idyllic resorts in Koh Samui and Phuket are rumoured to be where season three of The White Lotus will be filmed in 2024.
HBO’s The White Lotus is a global smash hit. The Golden Globe and Emmy-winning dark comedy-drama has developed a cult following of fans, who have been hanging out for the third season to drop. While HBO executives have been tight-lipped about revealing a release date, it’s speculated the highly-anticipated third instalment will stream next year. In the meantime, loyal followers have been trying to sniff out where the next film location will be – and the Tourism Authority of Thailand has confirmed filming will occur in the Southeast Asian country in 2024.
“We are honoured to have amazing Thailand featured as the filming location for the highly anticipated upcoming season of ‘The White Lotus,'” said Thapanee Kiatphaibool, TAT Governor, in a press release. “The kingdom’s exotic natural beauty, rich historical sites and diverse landscapes are the perfect settings to share our fascinating culture, fantastic cuisine, top-notch wellness and luxury offerings, and most importantly our people and Thai hospitality.”
Where was The White Lotus season one filmed?
The Four Seasons hospitality group partnered with HBO to film the two previous seasons of The White Lotus. The first season saw the ensemble cast embark upon their various plights in the comfort of Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea in Hawaii. While much of the filming took place within the property’s grounds – with the Serenity and Fountain pools featuring prominently – the majority of beach scenes were filmed on the shores of Wailea Beach.
Where was season two of The White Lotus filmed?
Season two saw The White Lotus storyline relocate to the idyllic island of Sicily, where Four Seasons San Domenico Palace in Taormina hosted the next enthralling installment. Perched high on a rocky outcrop on the north-east coast of Sicily, the Four Seasons San Domenico Palace is built upon the site where a 15th-century monastery once stood, adding a little mystery to the otherwise paradisiacal locale. The town of Noto was also used as a filming location when the characters went on a day trip from the hotel.
Where is season three of The White Lotus filmed?
Naturally, fans assume season three filming will take place at one of the chains’ properties in Thailand. While HBO hasn’t officially confirmed which properties The White Lotus will be filmed at, online super sleuths have noticed two resorts are booked out during the time many believe filming will take place. And rumour has it, that’s Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui and Anantara Mai Khao Phuket Villas.
Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui
With a beachfront location so beautiful it doesn’t feel real, Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui is bordered by tropical forest and the Gulf of Siam. The palm-fringed infinity pool is serviced with chilled towels and drinks, guests are invited to learn the art of Muay Thai at the on-site ring, and the spa offers open-air massage therapy just metres from the waves. A library, gym, rum vault and cultural and environmental tours curated by Four Seasons round out the plentiful guest experience.
At night, creative chefs and innovative mixologists set the five restaurants and bars alight with delicious dishes and libations. Add to this the cinematic sunsets, picturesque villas, and Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui suddenly seems like the only place filming The White Lotus season three makes sense. However, whispers suggest a second resort has been tapped for possible inclusion.
Anantara Mai Khao Phuket Villas
Set on the northern tip of Phuket, Anantara Mai Khao Phuket Villas is right on a golden stretch of beach and framed by a lush national park. Built in southern Thai village style, the villas are clustered around lagoon pools and surrounded by gardens. The Anantara Spa has alfresco baths, yoga and Ayurvedic treatments, while all-day refreshments can be enjoyed by the tropical swimming pool. The four restaurants offer both indoor and open-air dining, while sundowners are best sipped at the Sunset Lounge on the lawns.
Guests can explore the wonders of the ocean on board Siam Seas, a 36-foot speedboat, arrange a diving expedition or try their hand at game fishing. Personal pilates, Muay Thai, Tai Chi and tennis classes are all on the menu for those looking to level up their fitness regime. With a generous sprinkling of palm trees, pools, sunshine and breathtaking sunrises, Anantara Mai Khao Phuket Villas is a very plausible candidate for The White Lotus season three film location.
