Where to go during Grand Final weekend

Sports Bar at Northies in Cronulla
Regardless of whether your team made it to the Grand Final or which code you follow, this weekend is all about footy. Although Cronulla’s beloved boys in the black, white and blue missed the cut this year, Northies’ Sports Bar is still the top pick of spots in Sydney’s south to catch this year’s grand final. Sporting the biggest TV in Cronulla and situated in a prime location on the sunny beachfront, you can settle in and relax with the locals, grab an ice-cold beverage and pizza to share.  The AFL Grand Final will also be screened. northies.com.au

The Front Yard in Mona Vale
The Front Yard at the Park House in Mona Vale is all about brews, burgers and live sport. The Park House, which rose from the ruins of the Mona Vale Hotel, has one of the biggest screens on the Northern beaches plus 40 taps of beer with a mix of traditional and craft brews available. Both grand finals this weekend will be played in the Front Yard so bring your friends and your dog. Follow the @parkhousefoodandliquor to be kept in the loop.  parkhousefoodandliquor.com.au

There are an additional 15 TVs in Coogee Bay Hotel’s renowned Sports Bar, so you can yell at the screen every time you think the video ref got it wrong.  Note: the footy finals special: any burger + schooner of Carlton for $25.  coogeebayhotel.com.au

The Royal Hotel, Paddington
The Royal will also be fantastic for both grand final games – there are colourful pockets to enjoy the on-screen action throughout the venues, including Verandah Bar, Royal Bar and Elephant Bar. The Royal is the ‘Home of Sports’ in the Eastern Suburbs and, if you can’t bear for the party to end, then spend the rest of the night saying sayonara to the end of the season. Lovers of both codes should note that both grand final games will be shown.  royalhotel.com.au

The Toxteth
The Toxteth will have all its TVs on full volume, including the big screen in Sienna’s, which will blast out both grand final games. The alfresco courtyard is a top spot to enjoy the all-new menu at the Glebe pub, which recently underwent a significant refurbishment. Quirky new additions include wine on tap, cocktails on tap and featured craft beers including Young Henrys.  toxtethhotel.com.au

Surly’s
Yes, we know, there’s an AFL grand final this weekend too and the holy AFL faithful will certainly flock here to see the show. But this is NSW so the crowds will be most boisterous before, during and after the NRL finale. We predict not too many Melburnians will be game enough to be here rooting for the Sunday game where Roosters take on the Storm. If Sydney is victorious, there will be cause for celebration and yes, the party may well spill onto the street. Surly’s is a popular spot for sporting events so get in early as it will be filled to the brim.  parlourgroup.com.au

Coogee Pavilion

Roosters fans will be decking themselves out in red, white and blue for the NRL Grand Final at the Coogee Pavilion this weekend as the Merivale pub is in the heart of the team’s territory. Coogee Pavilion is celebrating Footy Finals weekend with all the big games lighting up screens across the venue. Quell your nerves at halftime and order the Outlaw Old Fashioned made with Olmeca Reposado tequila and hints of rosemary agave and beetroot. merivale.com

The West Coast Eagles take on Collingwood at the MCG in Melbourne from 2.30pm today. The Sydney Roosters face the Storm on Sunday at ANZ Stadium with pre-game entertainment kicking off at 6.30pm. There are still tickets available to the NRL Grand Final.
