Wellness weekend itinerary on the South Coast of NSW

Shoalhaven’s blissful beaches, opaline lagoons, tangled rainforest and calm estuaries are a natural magnet for those seeking a wellness getaway. Here’s how to slow your pulse on the South Coast.

Day 1

Stand Tall Retreats wellness getaways

Stand Tall Retreats hosts wellness getaways designed to help you become the best version of yourself. You can book in for everything from a day retreat for self-care to a weekend retreat for nourishing the body and mind, or a bespoke retreat tailored to your needs.

Meals during the retreat come courtesy of Dandelion & Mallow Wholefood Kitchen, and they are incredible. Think raw rainbow pad Thai, grilled chimichurri prawns, black rice, lentil and eggplant pilaf.

Activities

Over the course of your retreat you experience a wide range of activities. Some will get your heart pumping; some will slow it. Think surfing lessons, beach horse riding, personal Pilates classes and hula hooping … after a yoga class.

When it’s time to wind down, the retreat offers a holistic Ayurvedic health workshop with Dr Verena, a reiki energy balancing session and spa treatments (facials and massages) in-house with a local practitioner.

Day 2

In theory, your retreat goes for longer than a day (there’s so much to do). But it would be a shame not to experience other Shoalhaven wellness offerings. We suggest checking in to Bangalay Luxury Villas, nestled amid a lush canopy of palms and towering eucalypts; Mt Hay Retreat, where a handful of individual lodges offer breathtaking views and a secluded sanctuary; or Paperbark Camp, where luxury tents and superb dining meet eco-friendliness.

Lunch

If you fancy a drive, treat yourself to a garden-to-plate experience at Milk HAUS, one hour south near Milton. The charming eatery in a 19th-century converted cheese factory, offering a refined seasonal and sustainable menu. Try the house-smoked ocean trout or 14-hour slow-cooked lamb shoulder.

Other restaurants to consider:

  • Lyrebird Ridge Organic Winery and Retreat
  • The Garden Berry
  • Bangalay Dining
  • Hunt & Gather
  • The Milton Hotel
  • Cupitt’s estate
  • The Treehouse Cafe, Ulladulla

Head out for pampering

At Life Centre health spa, experience holistic treatments, including saunas, ice baths, floatation therapy and a magnesium pool. Or visit Bannister’s Spa By The Sea, where body scrubs, facials and massages will leave you feeling refreshed and revitalised.

Indulge in the healing benefits of nature during a forest bathing session with Experience Nature, with your guide connecting you to this lush part of the South Coast. Then work up a light sweat while paddling through calm waters of Jervis Bay Marine Park with Sea Kayak Jervis Bay.
