Wellington Harbour is the place to be at dusk on 23 February, 2018, when a mass assembly of waka hourua, twin-hulled ocean-going waka) from around the Pacific and Aotearoa (New Zealand), will row
into the harbour to open the New Zealand Festival.
On land, actors, choirs and kapa haka groups will welcome the voyagers to the Capital and a 1000-strong new haka will be performed. A Waka Odyssey is just one part of the three-week New Zealand Festival.
The Festival is held every two years across February and March and is New Zealand’s largest celebration of cutting-edge culture, showcasing the work of New Zealand artists with the best in music, arts, literature, dance and theatre.
