For the first time ever, New Zealand’s biggest food festival will run for an entire month! Visa Wellington On A Plate will be serving up dishes from local and international chefs for the entire month of August this year, with events that include French Nights with Laurent Loudeac; Kismet at Rita with Sara Kramer; Osteria Mozza Takeover at Shepherd with Nancy Silverton; Heart and Soul with Makoto Takoyama and more.
One of the festival’s highlights will be Hiaki Hāngi – a celebration of Polynesian culture and culinary traditions with Monique Fiso. Head Chef Fiso will be joined by an international team to create a four-course meal prepared using a traditional hāngi technique – essentially slow-cooking underground. Check out the video below to see how it works (and to see glimpses of last year’s sold out Hiaki Hāngi event):
Another festival highlight will be Bandersnack at Hillside Kitchen and Cellar, which is an interactive, choose-your-own-adventure-style event. During the five-course meal, your decisions made throughout will alter the dish to follow…
In addition to Wellington-based events, Visa Wellington On A Plate also heavily champions the abundance of regional New Zealand’s culinary talent, producers and suppliers. Areas like Wairarapa, Hutt Valley and Kapiti Coast are all spotlighted throughout the festival.
Visa Wellington On A Plate will run from 1-31 August 2019.
