Virgin Australia has launched its inaugural flight from Sydney to Hong Kong, marking the airline’s second route to the vibrant city.
The flight was celebrated by Danni Minogue leading a host of drummers and lion dancers through Sydney International Airport and will continue with a week of Asian delicacies on offer in the Virgin Australia Sydney Domestic Lounge.
“Hong Kong is an important gateway to China, which is Australia’s most valuable and largest inbound tourism market,” Virgin Australia Group chief executive officer and managing director John Borghetti said.
The flight recognises Australia’s growing links with China and prompts ease of travel between the two countries.
“Last year, we saw Hong Kong visitors increase by 17 percent, and this additional service is also great news for all the Aussies who love to travel, making the whole Asian region more accessible,” Sydney Airport chief executive officer Geoff Culbert says,
By contributing competition, value and choice to the market, Virgin seeks to open up new opportunities for Australian travellers.
The service will operate daily and ease access to Hong Kong and a further 17 destinations within China with Hong Kong Airlines and Hainan Airlines, or to London via Virgin Australia’s codeshare partnership with Virgin Atlantic Airways.
