Voluntourism is a growing trend as travellers show an increasing desire to ‘give back’ while enjoying a vacation and WorldVentures offers a range of VolunTours through its Foundation. Established in 2010, the Foundation’s mission is to support sustainable programs that promote children’s health, happiness, safety and development.
The VolunTours allow travellers to immerse themselves in the culture of the places they visit and, at the same time, aid needy communities by volunteering to work as part of their trip. A typical VolunTour usually involves learning about the history of the community, understanding the objectives of volunteering work, cultural tour, and some free time along with interaction with local children.
Projects usually involve the construction of facilities, beautifying of environment, cleaning up the community and accompanying the children from orphanages in activities. For example, a school in Guatamala was built using plastic bottles – one of 68 schools built using this method.
