A magnificent place when next in Hokkaido, is the Unkai Terrace at Hoshino Resort Tomamu.
While known for its skiing and snowboarding in the winter months, the Tomamu mountain resort has another jewel in its crown from mid-May to the end of October.
Catch a gondola up to the Unkai Terrace to witness the phenomenon of the spectacular sea of cloud that rolls in over the mountains, like a foggy ocean rearing for the shore. The clouds are so close visitors feel as if they can touch them. In September and October you can even catch the sunrise up there.
