Sand and serenity at Wakatobi’s Turtle Beach

Indonesia’s Wakatobi Resort is a remote and tranquil haven for nature lovers, divers, snorkelers, and travellers looking to escape the high-rise-lined beaches of major resort destinations. Set on a small island 900 kilometres east of Bali, this landmark destination is surrounded by a private marine preserve that protects some of the world’s most pristine and bio-diverse coral reefs.

Over the course of three decades, Wakatobi has grown from a simple diver’s outpost to a boutique oceanfront resort. A collection of private bungalows and villas nestle into a palm grove, and guests enjoy five-star services and fine dining experiences. The latest villas the Turtle Beach Bungalows.

Water wonderland on your doorstep

Set amidst palms with ocean views across their namesake beach, these new accommodations are an enlarged version of the resort’s popular Ocean Bungalows. Turtle Beach is a scenic stretch of sand located at the southern end of Wakatobi resort. This setting is remote enough yet just a short stroll to the Longhouse, restaurant and dive boats.

Floor plans for the Turtle Beach Bungalows mirror existing designs, and buildings are similarly constructed from sustainable local materials and built by local workers. Interiors feature vaulted ceilings, rich woodwork and canopied beds. The large indoor bathrooms of the Turtle Beach Bungalows include double sinks, an indoor shower and substantial dressing and drying space. This area connects to an Asian-style outdoor shower garden featuring double rainfall shower heads and a separate outdoor entrance from the beach. This is an ideal feature for swimmers and divers who want to avoid tracking sand or water into the bungalow.

Couples will appreciate the spacious comforts of the Turtle Beach Bungalows, and they are especially appealing to families, both for the space and the tranquillity of the setting. Single-bedroom units can easily accommodate parents and two children, and Wakatobi has added two-bedroom bungalow models for even more room.

The wonder of Wakatobi

While Wakatobi is a remote paradise, reaching it is a breeze. Direct guest flights from Bali to the resort’s private airfield ensure a hassle-free journey. Despite this easy access, the resort encourages guests to disconnect from the outside world and immerse themselves in the island’s serenity and the untouched beauty of the coral reefs. It’s the perfect balance of convenience and tranquility.

Guest impressions of the bungalows have been overwhelmingly positive. “The Turtle Beach Bungalows are elegant and spacious,” writes guest Lizabeth Hart in a review of her October 2023 stay. “The people here are wonderful, and that is what brings us back.” Guest Ella Pennington describes Wakatobi as “an exceptional experience from meeting our incoming flight to all aspects of our stay and our beautiful bungalow. It’s been a worry-free vacation chock-a-block full of endless undersea wonders and pristine coral reefs to discover while enjoying luxury accommodations and food.”
