Singapore brand The Fullerton Hotels and Resorts has opened its first hotel outside of the Lion City in the heart of the Sydney CBD, within the former General Post Office (GPO) building at No. 1 Martin Place.
The 416-room The Fullerton Hotel Sydney, within a key heritage-listed building of Sydney, has been thoroughly restored by the Singaporean hotel group, which also includes The Fullerton Hotel Singapore and The Fullerton Bay Hotel Singapore within its portfolio.
The hotel, a Preferred Hotels & Resorts Legend Collection partner, is located in the centre of Sydney’s business district, surrounded by financial institutions, luxury retail stores, galleries and restaurants, all within walking distance of some of Sydney’s top tourist attractions, including the Sydney Harbour precinct.
At the official Sydney launch event, Cavaliere Giovanni Viterale, general manager of The Fullerton Hotels and Resorts said, “We strive to deliver a luxury hotel that can contribute to Sydney’s growth as an international destination. We want to showcase the beauty and the history of this grand town to the world. Together with the community, we wish to grow alongside the people of Sydney and I’m delighted to announce that we have found a charity partner that is aligned with our passion to serve the disadvantaged children and youth. The Girls and Boys Brigade have taken care of inner-city children who are often deprived of simple necessities. We are pleased to make a donation of AUD$200,000 to the Girls and Boys Brigade. Beyond providing financial support, we will introduce hospitality training to the children and youth. My hope is that they will be able to welcome them in our Fullerton family as colleagues in the future.”
The menus within the hotel feature authentic Southeast Asian cuisines alongside Modern Australian dishes in the new restaurant The Place, located on level one in an atrium filled with natural light. In an ode to its sister Singapore hotels, The Fullerton Hotel Sydney will serve a Signature Afternoon Tea at The Bar, with a high-tea tray that includes such morsels as Lobster Cornet a l’Oriental, duck rillettes in sesame bun, smoked salmon mille-feuille with caviar, chocolate moelleux, pecan maple tart or a pandan lamington – served alongside an extensive TWG tea menu. At The Bar, guests can also choose between a Singapore Sling cocktails or a new ‘Sydney Sling’ version which draws on flavours associated with Sydney.
The hotel group engaged Stonemason and Artist, an expert team with a combined stonemasonry experience of 334 years, who undertook a 38,000-hour chemical-free cleaning process to restore the building’s façade. With the introduction of 90-minute complimentary heritage tours starting on 1 November, hotel guests and the general public will be able to explore the building’s history, dating back to 1874. The tours will draw attention to the stonework and reveal little-known facts from the past. Exclusive tours for hotel guests will run on Fridays and Saturdays at 10a.m., while members of the public are invited to join the tours on Fridays and Saturdays at 11.45a.m. Email firstname.lastname@example.org for more info.
