The Back-Roads to the front
While the rolling green hills and perfect vineyards of northern France may seem peaceful and picturesque today, they hide a gruesome past. Countless lives were lost throughout the first half of the 20th century when the First and Second World Wars raged across the area.
For the past 20 years, Back-Roads Touring has been offering expert-led battlefields tours of the Western Front and Normandy, taking guests on a journey of recognition, remembrance and respect as they visit sites of global significance.
Back-Roads’ WW1 tour takes guests through the Somme, Vimy Ridge and Ypres in a moving, educational and personalised tour that follows British and Commonwealth involvement and visits memorials for the thousands of soldiers who lost their lives.
Should guests have an ancestor who fought in the area or who want to coodinate a visit to commemorate a fallen family member, the Back-Roads tour leader will make every effort to locate their grave, search the battalion records and piece together their last movements on the battlefield. The Back-Roads battlefield experience is a journey of recognition, remembrance and respect as you visit these sites of global significance.
