The Adelaide restaurant that will be taken over by MasterChefs this March

Australian MasterChef is undoubtedly one of the favourites when it comes to reality cooking shows and often the contestants make quite a name for themselves after appearing on the show. Season ten winner Sashi Cheliah was one of them. Since taking out his season in 2018 with a record-breaking score of 93/100, Sashi has opened his own restaurant, GAJA By Sashi, in his home town of Adelaide.

Typically, GAJA By Sashi specialises in fusion flavours from South East Asia. However, this March, the menu is about to get a shakeup as Sashi’s restaurant will be taken over by fellow Masterchef contestants every Saturday evening.

Sashi’s GAJA March will feature four Top 24 MasterChef contestants from the most recent seasons of MasterChef Australia. Each chef will cook alongside Sashi in the kitchen across four dedicated dining events; each with their own menu showcasing their signature cuisines and flavours.

It’s an occasion for foodies and MasterChef fans alike, who will get the opportunity to enjoy a personalised, three-course dinner and wine pairing. Each night, guests will also get to indulge in an intimate conversation with the featured chef to talk about the thought and planning that went into their menu and their own Masterchef experience.

First up, on Saturday 7 March is Dee Williams whose cooking will strongly reflect her Sri Lankan heritage. On night two, Saturday 14 March, Sandeep Pandit, aka ‘The Spice Angel’ will treat guests to a menu inspired by his Kashmiri heritage and North Indian inspired food. Night three, on Saturday 21 March, fan-favourite and ‘dumpling master,’ Derek La will take to the kitchen to push the boundaries of creativity and Chinese flavours. And the final night, on Saturday 28 March, will feature none other than Sashi Chelia himself as he cooks an exclusive three-course menu with dishes not available on the regular nights.

Each Saturday night is set to truly be an interactive and unforgettable culinary experience that taps into the foodie-culture Adelaide is becoming known for.

“It gives people the opportunity to try other cuisines from different MasterChef contestants all in one place,” said Sashi who also hopes GAJA will promote other MasterChef talents too.
