Location, location. It’s all about location at the St. Regis Deer Valley. Even arriving is a cut above, as we ride up a funicular from Deer Valley Ski Resort to the hotel.
It has plenty of wow factor from the moment you step inside, with the huge welcoming lobby with two-sided fireplace to the large outdoor terrace overlooking the beautiful swimming pool. The best thing is that just beyond the swimming pool is a ski run – yes – you can ski right to the door.
The service is exquisite, as we discover when we ski home the next day. We are met by a smiling valet who stores our skis, and when we step inside the ski room, a lovely young lady asks do I need help getting my boots off. That would be a yes as I don’t think I can bend over that far after all the skiing in that fresh, light, dry snow Utah is famous for.
The property has 109 guest rooms and 65 suites, lavishly furnished and with beds that are as soft as the powder snow piling up outside.
We are at Deer Valley in school holidays and notice that kids are treated like VIPs at the St. Regis. In the afternoon we join in the fun at the hot chocolate bar – there are families dotted around the spacious lounge playing board games, reading, or just savouring the marshmallow topped hot chocolate.
The daily champagne sabreing ritual is one for the grownups, and we love cooking s’mores by the fire pit on the terrace. Dinner is at the J&G Grill, and we could have taken advantage of the hotel chauffeurs to head into Main Street and the wide range of restaurants there. But really, as we are staying in such a beautiful place it is too hard to leave.
