There’s something to be said for a massage in a tent. We’re not talking about a tent you have to pitch yourself, but a freestanding platform perched like a treehouse on the edge of the bush, with canvas walls, heated massage tables, crystal chandelier, nature’s very own soundtrack and a seriously good masseuse.
The Spa at Spicers Sangoma Retreat reimagines the great outdoors as a place of pure luxury. Tucked into the bushland surrounding Bowen Mountain, the massage tent is something very special and is just one of the very special parts that make up this eco-retreat on the southeast edge of Blue Mountains National Park.
Spicers Sangoma Retreat accommodates just 16 guests at a time, and, with just one massage tent guests are wise to reserve their treatment pre-arrival. The menu isn’t long, with just eight options, but there’s enough to ensure you are pampered from head to toe.
The ‘Sangoma Signature Massage‘ combines traditional healing techniques with dynamic movements, focusing on spiritual and physical rejuvenation; Dova therapy focuses on muscle aches and tension; and a traditional aromatherapy massage utilises botanical emulsions. ‘Essence of Amatshe‘ releases energy through gemstones and hot basalt stones. The Zulu word for healer, Sangoma, at its heart combines traditional African with modern Australian and the fusion seems to click. spicersretreats.com
