We’re all encouraged to spend more time outdoors. But would you go as far as sleeping in your local park?
More than 87,000 Finnish people did when they took part in an annual outdoor sleeping event.
The Outdoor Association of Finland scattered beds around the parks of Helsinki to encourage people to spend the night. Just make sure to make your bed in the morning.

Organisers wanted to show that you don’t have to go far from home to experience something new.
“We wanted to reach also those whose relationship with nature might be more distant. The beds around Helsinki reminded people of how wonderful spending a night under a starry sky could be,” explains the event planner Saija Suominen.
This is the sixth year in a row the event has been held. Its success is attributed to the beauty of Finland’s natural landscapes.
On top of that Finns could take advantage of the many recreational activities. Forest yoga, mountain biking, star trekking and mushroom tours.

If you’re not convinced yet it turns out that sleeping outside is actually beneficial for your health.
Science proves it relieves stress, improves your mood and helps you fall asleep faster.
The event is completely free to locals with the exception of bicycle rental and use of the smoke sauna.
