After a smooth and efficient check-in process through the Qantas Business Check-In at Sydney’s Kingsford Smith Airport, we were handed an express pass which allowed us to breeze through customs and security.
With plenty of time to spare at the Qantas Business Lounge on level 3, we kick back with barista-made coffee and order a bite to eat from Neil Perry’s Rockpool-inspired menu. There’s also a beverage selection of fine wines, beers and soft drinks and fridge full of tempting gelato flavours. The lounge is spacious and carefully planned out, with plenty of nooks and spaces for relaxing, working and dining, as well as showers and a Family Zone for those travelling with little ones.
The call comes through to board our flight and we make our way over for Business Class priority boarding. Qantas air crew greet us with a smile and warm welcome, immaculately groomed and presented in their classic cocktail-cut black dresses with signature pink and red stripe. We take our seat in the upper deck and are offered a hot or cold towel and beverage.
Qantas Business Class seats are in a 2-2-2 configuration and there’s plenty of personal storage available; I prefer the window seats as they come with separate compartments giving even more storage. There’s a breakfast order card to be filled out before take-off so as not to be disturbed during our movie-watching or snooze later in the flight.
The new generation SkyBed cocoon seats are designed by Marc Newson, and are as comfortable as they are stylish. Once the seatbelt sign is off, we recline the seat, and raise and extend the footrest, stretching out. An added bonus is the massage feature! At the touch of the lie-flat button, you can fully recline the seat into a two-metre long, fully-flat bed which makes for easy sleeping along with the comfy duvet and pillow.
All the vital necessities; TV screen, remote, headphones, plug-in points, reading light, and privacy screen, are all within easy reach and easy to operate. The entertainment offering includes more than 1,500 options, including plenty of new releases we have not yet seen, as well as music and radio channels, the latest news and docos, and a dedicated Kids Zone, games and flight tracker. qantas.com
