Qantas launches seasonal flights from Sydney to Sapporo

Snow bunnies and ski fans rejoice, because Qantas has just announced new direct seasonal flights between Sydney and Sapporo, Japan. Coinciding with Japan’s peak ski season, Qantas will fly three times per week to Sapporo’s New Chitose Airport between 16 December 2019 and 28 March 2020.

Japan’s ski slopes are hugely popular destinations for Australians. Niseko, on the island of Hokkaido, tops the list for Aussies looking to escape our summer. Only a couple of hours from Sapporo, Niseko Ski Resort is made up of four interlinked ski resorts, and is prized for its consistency and quality of powder snow.

Qantas International Acting CEO Naren Kumar said, “The number of Australians travelling to Japan has more than doubled over the past five years, with almost 500,000 Australians visiting Japan in the last 12 months alone. We expect Japan’s popularity to continue with the country hosting a number of major international sporting events in the next two years.”

It’s not just the snow that continues to drive Aussies to Japan in droves. It’s the country’s fascinating culture, diverse cuisine, natural sights, excellent shopping and friendly locals that keep us going back. Every region in Japan offers something unique and there’s so much to discover about the nation. Getting around is super simple too, with easy domestic flights as well as an extensive rail network, of course.

The new Qantas Sydney to Sapporo service is available to book now from qantas.com or through travel agents.
