The Portobello Road Market is one of the most popular in Europe thanks in part to its unusual second-hand clothes industry. You’ll find just about every dud you can imagine here; studded choker chain necklace? Check. A box of lightly worn underpants? Check. An 18th Century coronation crown? Probably not, but you never know what you’ll find if you dig deep enough. Portobello is also well known as the world’s largest antique market – and has been since the early 19th Century. More than 1,000 vendors flog their wares here, and during the weekends the scene can be downright overwhelming. But a Saturday morning along Portobello Road in Notting Hill is a uniquely English experience.
