Anticipation for the final season of beloved TV show Game of Thrones is reaching a fever pitch, but it won’t be long until the realisation that it’s all well and truly coming to an end sets in. Luckily, HBO Licensing & Retail have partnered with Linen Mill Studios in Northern Ireland to open the world’s only Game of Thrones Studio Tour.
Opening in Spring 2020, the Game of Thrones Studio Tour will allow fans to get up close to a range of authentic sets and genuine props and costumes from across all seasons of the show. Step foot into King’s Landing, channel your inner Jon Snow at The Wall, find a direwolf puppy at Winterfell or sail across the Narrow Sea to try and spot a dragon in Mereen. The Studio Tour promises an immersive experience that will bring Westeros to life.
Linen Mill Studios, found in Banbridge, Northern Ireland, is the original filming location used for many key scenes from the show. In collaboration with HBO Licensing & Retail, the studio is currently designing and building the expansive 110,000 square foot space.
Since the premiere of Game of Thrones in 2011 (cast your mind back to the innocent days of Ned Stark and Robert Baratheon), the show has been heavily lauded for its impressively high production value. The Studio Tour will give fans the opportunity to learn the ins and outs of this with a collection of informative displays that highlight the craftsmanship, artistry and pure skill of the creative teams who brought the show to life.
“Linen Mill Studios is thrilled, in partnership with HBO, to have this opportunity to offer fans a unique insight into the making of the Game of Thrones series in the authentic setting of one of its foremost filming locations. We are committed to giving fans the opportunity to experience firsthand the most comprehensive selection of iconic elements from the show available anywhere in the world,” said Andrew Webb, Managing Director of Linen Mill Studios.
The new Game of Thrones Studio Tour is just another compelling reason to visit Northern Ireland.
“We very much welcome this exciting announcement. Game of Thrones has transformed Northern Ireland into a leading international screen tourism destination, bringing many more visitors and fans of the show to Northern Ireland to explore the stunning landscapes, coastlines and mountains showcased in the series. The new attraction will also allow visitors to see the authentic sets and costumes and learn how Game of Thrones was made. The Studio Tour location at the Linen Mill Studios in Banbridge, midway between Belfast and Dublin, can be easily reached by the 11 million people who visit the Island of Ireland each year as well as providing even more reasons for international tourists to visit,” said John McGrillen, Chief Executive of Tourism NI.
