Ideally located between Yangon International Airport and downtown, Novotel Yangon Max is the perfect base for exploring Yangon.
The hotel’s design exudes style and comfort, and the staff make me feel very welcome when I arrive. I am staying in an Executive Suite, which is an impressive 68 square metres in size. It has a huge foyer, separate living room, bathtub, rainwater shower and a king-size bed. I am basking in all this space – the suite is twice the size of my two-bedroom apartment back home.
The suite has the most incredible views, overlooking not only the lush swimming pool below, but out across to the magnificent golden Shwedagon Pagoda. It is truly a sight to behold and it’s a marvellous feeling to wake up to this view each morning.
After a few hours of exploring downtown, I retreat to the hotel in the heat of the day, for a dip in the stunning swimming pool to cool off. If swimming is not your style, there’s also a tennis court, fitness centre, yoga room, spa and hair salon.
Dining options at Novotel Yangon Max are impressive with The Square Restaurant serving international cuisine and the Royal Pavilion Restaurant on the ground floor offering authentic Cantonese fare. My favourite option though has to be Le Cellier Restaurant on the 14th floor, with its delicate French cuisine served in a luxurious setting.
At the end of the day I relax by watching a movie from the luxury of my giant bath tub. I think I’ve found my home away from home, I’m not sure I can go back to my shoebox apartment after this.
