With expansive lake views and stunning villas, Novotel Inle Lake Myat Min, located in the Taunggyi District of Shan State, is well worth the 90-minute drive from Heho Airport.
The property, which is less than two years old, exudes tranquility from the moment you enter. I am staying in a Superior Resort Villa over Inle Lake. The villas are connected by a series of elevated pathways and feature separate lounge and bedroom areas, each with their own TV, oversized bathroom with a shower and egg-shaped bathtub, plus a private outdoor balcony.
Be sure to speak to staff for the timing of the day’s sunset, as you don’t want to miss it. Head to the aptly named Sunset Bar, cocktail in hand – I recommend the very refreshing mojito – in time for the day’s picture perfect sunset. Watch as the hues change from pink to rose to blush, as the sun slowly moves behind the picturesque mountains.
After a long, hot day of sightseeing on the lake filled with incredible temples, local cuisine and handmade wares, I arrive back at Novotel, and head straight for a dip in the infinity pool to cool down, then it’s back to my villa for some ‘R and R’. I end this perfect day with a late-night trip to the spa for a relaxing foot massage. Tranquil indeed!
