New Zealand announces border open date

Our Kiwi neighbours are finally letting down their guard.

New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has confirmed the country will reopen its borders to vaccinated Australians from 12 April 2022.

Holidaymakers will not need to quarantine either.

The opening is timed perfectly for Aussie families wanting to visit during the Easter school holidays, or for a snow trip to one of New Zealand’s incredible ski resorts.

Travellers from other countries with visa waiver arrangements with New Zealand would be allowed to enter without quarantine from May 1.

New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern made the announcement Wednesday 16 March and said, “We’re ready to welcome the world back. New Zealand will be ready with open arms.”

Qantas and Jetstar are planning to help reunite families and take tourists across the Tasman following the announcement.

The airlines plan to ramp up their trans-Tasman flights from mid-April, with up to 30 return flights operating weekly to begin with.
