Location
Positioned in the heart of Mykonos town, from my private terrace I can see the six windmills over Little Venice, large ferries toing and froing from other islands, a rainbow of bougainvillea, and a swag of super yachts anchored off the town. Ah, Greece… it has been far too long.
Claim to fame
I am staying at the Myconian Korali, part of the Myconian Collection of 10 luxury hotels dotted around this vibrant island of blue sky, blue domes, blue sea, whitewashed walls, and a sea of extravagant cocktails. Korali is one of three Myconian properties perched on a hill overlooking the town, with Naia Luxury Suites and Kyma Design Hotel right next door.
The showstopper
Walking into the lobby, my eyes are immediately drawn to the curved picture windows on the far side of the room, giving the first peek at the azure view I will be immersed in for the next few days. It is a striking sight overlooking the Aegean Sea and all its water tinged magic.
The room
My suite – one of 40 rooms and suites room on the property – is light, bright and airy. With plenty of hanging space, a handy bag with yellow pool towels, his-and-her slippers and robes. There is a small sofa with a coffee table, a flat-screen TV and Nespresso machine. A door that leads out to a private outdoor terrace with two canary-yellow sunbeds and a private Jacuzzi.
Those robes come in handy should you want a sunset soak or if you want to laze on a sunbed by the swimming pool. With cocktails from the Kitrino bar, provided with cheerful deckchair service.
Amenity game
The bathroom has a glass wall separating it from the main living space. It has a vanity panel and a push-button blind in case you want privacy from your other half. There is a large rain shower head and a small hand-held one; the amenities are L’Occitane.
As for the bed, it is so comfortable I enjoy a blissful sleep – it comes with the finest cotton sheets and a pillow menu, too. I go to sleep with a smile, knowing that tomorrow, I will be strolling around Little Venice and reacquainting myself with the island’s many charms.
Beyond the rooms
Myconian Korali is a member of Relais & Châteaux, and as you would expect, the food offerings are sublime. Baos is a fine dining restaurant, and the panoramas from the table are a perfect combination for the exquisite tasting menu I devour, crafted by Executive chef Panagiotis Tsoukatos.
I also dine at neighbour Naia’s excellent Asian fusion restaurant, Naros. First with a cocktail at the genuinely spectacular Barcos bar, which is the ultimate spot for a sunset pre-dinner drink. I spend almost as much time admiring the intricate and artistic timber cover sitting high over the outdoor space as I savouring every dish. Service is so attentive that with the chill of the evening set in, a scarf is produced to keep me warm.
Spa life
The tranquil haven of the Satory Thalasso Spa is metres from the front door of Korali. Offering five heated thalassotherapy pools complemented by essential oils and hydro-massage. Treatments are tailored to your needs by expert therapists from a Chill Out body massage to beautifying Superfood Pro-radiance facials. The Frangipani Salt Glow Scrub is a fan favourite.
