The resilience of Australia’s tourism industry never fails to amaze. At a time when many are suffering, our favourite operators are working hard to come up with incredible new experiences and offerings. Yes, to tempt travellers back. Because who doesn’t want to try the world’s highest cliff-camping adventure in Victoria or be dazzled by Indigenouscreated light installations in the Northern Territory?

But also because our travel world is about something bigger than booking a tour or buying a ticket – it is, and always has been, about inspiration. Creating generations of travellers who are worldly and educated, and are excited by every opportunity that comes their way. It’s with this in mind that I’m delighted to welcome you to the first edition of Vacations & Travel for 2022: The Inspiration Issue.

We’ve scoured Australia to find the hottest experiences to try in the new year – we’ve listed 22, but there are so many more – and take you to far-flung corners of the planet, from the remote Cocos (Keeling) archipelago in the Indian Ocean, to the country of Georgia, whose Soviet history creates a colourful backdrop for visitors. And then we visit Namibia, where the stark beauty of landscapes creates the perfect backdrop for wildlife photography.
