The Maldives is not short on luxury accommodation options, but the new offering from LUX* Resorts & Hotels takes it to a whole new level. LUX* North Male Atoll, open 1 February 2019, is an antidote to the ‘traditional thatched villa vibe’ of resorts we’re used to seeing in the tropical paradise. Taking on a more contemporary approach, the new resort features 67 oversized double-storey penthouse residences – each with its own private pool.
Miaja, the Singapore-based design house responsible for the resort’s unique concept, was inspired by the curves and lines of the luxury boats and their sails. The spacious residences all sit either right on the beach or over the water and feature plenty of room to eat, drink and simply just relax. Rooms are expansive with floor to ceiling windows and doors that allow you to wake up to a beautiful seabreeze and the sight of the Indian Ocean splayed in front of you.

Dining options are decadent and varied, with the INTI restaurant boasting the Maldives only Peruvian chef, Chef Gaston. Flavours here span the unique fares of Peru, Argentina, Japan, Ecuador and Mexico in interesting and innovative ways. GLOW takes on European classics and South East Asian cuisines, while Beach Rouge delivers wood-fired pizza and a charcoal grill.
Activities range from flow yoga, aqua stretching and water massages at the in-house spa to snorkelling, diving, jet skiing and more. Each villa comes with a personal host who’s on hand to help take each experience to the next level.

LUX* North Male Atoll is found on Olhahali, which is a short transfer from Male by either luxury speedboat or seaplane. It’s a great option for those looking for something a little different in the Maldives.
