The La Mariscal district is the best shopping destination in Quito; here you’ll find everything from Andean dolls and alpaca sweaters to llama swag and Ecuadorian jewellery.
La Mariscal is much more relaxed than overpriced and overrated Otavalo, and a great place to find deals on excellent Panama hats (this is where you’ll find the famed Homero Ortega workshop) and one-of-a-kind crafts (the indigenous and folk art at the Olga Fisch gallery is both high-quality and highly-regarded).
Shop for housewares at the Sinchi Sacha Foundation, track down the best in Ecuadorian coffee and chocolate at boutiques in the New Town, or wander the atmospheric streets of Old Town in search of hidden treasures.
