About Aurora Expeditions

For more than 25 years, Aurora Expeditions have been pioneering expedition travel to the heart of nature. Co-founded by legendary Australian mountaineer, Greg Mortimer, Aurora Expeditions are passionate about taking small groups of like-minded expeditioners to the polar regions and beyond.

Redefining Expedition Cruising

In 2019, Aurora Expeditions will launch its brand-new, purpose-built expedition vessel, the Greg Mortimer. Just like its namesake, this new vessel will push the boundaries of exploration, using the latest innovations in naval technology.

Exclusively designed for expedition cruising, this new ship will allow Aurora Expeditions to continue to provide authentic, small group adventures to the world’s most spectacular wilderness areas. The Greg Mortimer will be the first expedition ship to use the patented Ulstein X-BOW®, which allows for more gentle sea crossings, faster transit speeds as well as lower fuel consumption and air emissions.

Onboard observation will be front and centre on the Greg Mortimer. Custom-made hydraulic platforms bring expeditioners closer to the action, and 360° viewing lounges let passengers take in the passing wildlife and scenery anytime of the day.

The Greg Mortimer is equipped with up to 15 Zodiacs to provide the flexibility needed for more frequent, and longer, landings. The Greg Mortimer’s activity prep area and kayak launch platform has been designed in collaboration with Aurora Expeditions’ world-class expedition and activity leaders, continuing Aurora Expedition’s commitment to pioneering adventure activities in the polar regions.

Whether it’s paddling past icebergs, snorkelling for porpoising penguins or climbing rarely-summited peaks, the Greg Mortimer gets passengers into the action safely and efficiently.

The Greg Mortimer’s safety standards are second-to-none. Built to the latest Polar Code specifications, its ice class 1A hull is one category below full ice-breaker. It also carries the latest ‘return-to- port’ technology, an additional feature for a vessel this size for added safety. The virtual anchoring and dynamic positioning ensures the protection of the delicate sea floor we visit.

When not ashore, passengers can take part in lecture delivered by some of the world’s leading experts, enjoy a drink in the panoramic observation lounge, or unwind in the wellness centre.
