Active Travel’s 22-day tour of India’s remote north-eastern region, departing November 2016, will uncover the ancient monasteries, spectacular valleys, colourful festivals and diverse cultural events of Sikkim and Nagaland.
Hosted by experienced Australian adventure guide, Mike Taverner, guests will explore the iconic city of Kolkata before continuing to the foothills of the Himalayas, travelling through lush forests, beautiful valleys and small tribal villages. Staying in comfortable farmhouses or hotels, as well as an alpine tent on the Dzukou Valley, the tour includes many opportunities to engage with the local community and get a taste of Indian culture.
Highlights include a visit to the Maenam Wildlife Sanctuary, a Sikkimese cooking class and the Hornbill Festival at Kohima in Nagaland, which showcases food, performances and customs from most of the Naga tribes.
