If getting away from it all appeals, head to Haggerstone Island in Queensland, a two-hour flight north from Cairns. This little gem is an all-inclusive boutique resort situated on the Great Barrier Reef, with shoes optional and adventure assured. The small resort has been created by Roy and Anna Turner over 30 years, with guests staying in lovingly crafted huts – Kwila, Lagoon, Beach Hut (pictured), or House Mawu. The food is fresh and plentiful, with seafood on the doorstep and bountiful gardens crowded with vegetables, herbs and fruit trees. A 40 ft boat is your tour guide for fishing, snorkelling, diving and exploring, or you can venture further afield in a helicopter.
