The Melbourne International Film Festival brings together international and local Australian cinema. With so much on offer, here’s our guide to enjoying the best in travel, food and film.
Melbourne Film Festival
Melbourne is Australia’s undisputed cultural heartland, and is a thriving destination for theatre, arts and film. The MIFF, which runs until August 19, brings together international and local cinema, with categories such as fashion, cinema, music, film and history uncovered. This year, leading filmmakers will also present an array of innovative visual installations – including virtual reality and experimental film.
Grab your tickets
The MIFF offers a mini pass that grants access to your Top 10 films, and a variety of industry talks are also open to the public. First-time visitors should download the MIFF App, which allows you to view session times and seamlessly plan your festival experience.
Stay in style
Melbourne comes alive during MIFF, with events held at key venues across the city. Stay in a central location, such as AVANI Melbourne, which is walking distance from Flinders Street Station. The PTV App will also allow you to plan your journey with Melbourne’s extensive public transport network: try catching a tram for an authentic Melbourne moment.
Fuel your body
As Virgina Woolf said, “One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well.” Food culture is one-of-a-kind in Melbourne – with its bustling laneways, hidden speakeasies and plentiful restaurants, bars and cafes. Try Chin Chin if you’re hankering for Asian-inspired cuisine, or enjoy a cocktail with sweeping city views at Madame Brussels.
