Fairmont opens in Maldives

AccorHotels has introduced the luxury Fairmont brand to the Maldives, with the opening of Fairmont Maldives Sirru Fen Fushi.

Located on the Shaviyani Atoll in North Maldives, Sirru Fen Fushi, meaning ‘secret water island’ in local Dhivehi language, boasts 120 luxurious all-pool villas, 200 meters of infinity pools, and safari-style tented villas nestled within the island’s lush interior jungle.

Ideal for both couples and families, the opulent resort is surrounded by lush island vegetation, white sand beaches and endless turquoise sea, home to abundant sea life, and a nine kilometre-long house reef including a manta ray cleaning station, directly accessible from the beach.

The pristine Shaviyani Atoll, of which Sirru Fen Fushi is the sole hotel, has one of the country’s largest resort lagoons, and its previously untouched location has allowed marine life to flourish, with a manta rays, turtles, large pods of bottlenose dolphins and spinner dolphins regular visitors in the crystal-clear waters of the 600-hectare lagoon.

Both AccorHotels and the Fairmont brand have a strong reputation for sustainable tourism and are committed to improving the well-being of local communities and ecosystems wherever they operate.

In May 2018, the resort will host the Maldives’ first coral regeneration project in the form of an Underwater Art Installation, created by renowned underwater naturalist and artist Jason deCaires Taylor.

Sirru Fen Fushi has an array of experiences designed to bring guests closer to nature, including a sunset dolphin tour, coconut tree planting, and participating in coral restoration efforts and turtle release programs.

Inspiration from the resort’s stunning natural surrounds can also be seen and felt all throughout the property, with a bohemian rustic chic design style of copper fittings and wood furniture. Opportunities for immersive nature experiences are endless, such as the unique tented jungle villas, glamping, a jungle cinema and even destination dining experiences with private meals enjoyed under the stars on powder-soft sand.

Contemporary dining venues include include all-day dining at Raha Market, an over-water Japanese restaurant and sushi bar called Kata, and over-water fine dining featuring fresh seafood and exceptional wine and Champagne at Azure. There are also three bars, including the relaxed waterside Raha Market Bar; the poolside Onu Onu complete with loungers and fire pits, and Kata Rooftop Bar which overlooks the entire western side of the island.

Guests can enjoy wellness therapies and experiences at the resort’s Willow Stream Spa, which offers an extensive range of Indian Ocean-inspired treatments. Fairmont Maldives Sirru Fen Fushi is AccorHotels’s third hotel in the Maldives, following Mercure Maldives Kooddoo Resort and Dhevanafushi Maldives Luxury Resort. It is a 50-minute domestic flight from Male International Airport followed by speedboat from Hanimaadhoo Airport to the resort. Alternatively, guests can book a 50-minute scenic seaplane flight directly to the resort.
