Not content simply driving us from point A to point B on the road, Uber has now launched underwater rides called scUber. The ridesharing company has partnered with Tourism and Events Queensland to offer riders a once-in-a-lifetime chance to explore the Great Barrier Reef sans snorkels or scuba gear. From inside the special scUber submarine, riders can discover the depths of one of Australia’s greatest natural wonders and watch the vast underwater world come to life.
scUber is ordered through the Uber app, but naturally, availability will be very limited. It’s available now on Heron Island, off the coast of Gladstone, and on June 9 it will be available at Agincourt Reef, off the coast of Port Douglas and Cairns. A scUber experience costs $3,000 for two people and includes a one-hour ride in the scUber submarine and a return scenic helicopter ride. Plus, you get picked-up and dropped off at your location with Uber.
To celebrate the launch of scUber, Queensland and Uber are running a scUber experience giveaway for entrants in Australia, USA, U.K, Canada, France and New Zealand.
Uber has also announced a partnership with Citizens of the Great Barrier Reef, an organisation dedicated to protecting and conserving the Great Barrier Reef. The ridesharing company has donated $100,000 to the organisation, plus will also donate the equivalent value of every scUber ride.
