Experience a taste of Santa Monica in Sydney

Pier One Sydney Harbour is looking a little different these days thanks to a new Santa Monica pop-up. The American beachside city is taking over until 31 October, giving Sydney-siders a taste of California living.

Pier One is playing host to a series of Santa Monica-inspired events including free wellness and fitness experiences, an organic mini farmers market, live music sunset sessions and a curated menu of SoCal-style food.

“We are thrilled to bring a taste of Santa Monica soul to Pier One Sydney Harbour,” said Misti Kerns, president/CEO of Santa Monica Travel & Tourism (SMTT). “Aussies share a similar mindset to Santa Monica residents, particularly with our focus on health and wellness, laid back lifestyle and love of fresh food, and that’s ultimately what we considered when planning the calendar of events.”

Visitors to the Santa Monica at Pier One pop-up will also have the chance to win a trip to the city itself, thanks to Santa Monica Travel & Tourism, United Airlines and 7Travel. For a chance to win, share your pop-up pictures on Instagram and tag #santamonicasydney.

Wellness and fitness

Free yoga and pilates sessions will be on offer every Wednesday morning during the pop-up. For something a bit more intense, ROGA (run + yoga) sessions are happening on Saturdays, in partnership with lululemon. These include a 2.5km run from Luna Park to Santa Monica at Pier One, followed by a harbour-view yoga session. Tickets are free but booking ahead is essential.

Food and drinks

Pick up some fresh produce, fresh flowers, local artisan breads or just enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of the Sunday Farmers Markets. Taking place on 6 and 13 October from 10am-2pm, the markets will also host free cooking demonstrations from some of Santa Monica’s acclaimed chefs and live music.

On Wednesday 16 October, there will also be a special Santa Monica x Gantry Chefs Table event with Chef Govind Armstrong of the Lobster and Chef Thom Gorringe, Head Chef of the Gantry. The seafood BBQ will be a celebration of local produce and Chef Govind’s Costa Rican influence. The Chefs Table event is $250 per person and includes six courses with matching wines. Bookings are essential.

Friday Twilight on the Pier
