Estonia On A Plate
Given the rise of Scandinavian cuisine it was only a matter of time before the world’s culinary gaze shifted southeast to Estonia. Tipped to become the next global super star young Estonian chef Peeter Pihel plies his craft at the restaurant Alexander, located in the 800-year-old Pädaste Manor.
This picturesque country estate has a colourful history, having survived occupation by the Danes, Germans and Russians. Pihel grew up on the island of Saarema and has drawn on these roots to create a unique culinary style, a combination of New Nordic cuisine and traditional Estonian cooking.
For an introduction book the nine-course Islands Degustation menu, which features locally-sourced produce and wild plants. Alexander has been voted Estonia’s best restaurant for four years in succession and is a two-hour drive from Tallinn.
