Coral Expeditions has announced an Indigenous Art-themed cruise, sailing in September 2020. Aboard the Coral Discoverer, guests will sail for 11 nights from Darwin to Cairns, exploring the northern Australian coastline along the way.
Curated by traditional artist Brian Robinson, the speciality cruise will focus on Indigenous art, taking guests to a range of significant art centres through the journey. Coral Discoverer will stop at the Tiwi Islands, where guests can witness the local fabric printmaking and clothing business; see Elders pass on stories through art in Maningrida; and visit sacred rock art rarely seen by the masses.
Experiences that delve into history, art, culture and nature are the biggest themes on a Coral Expeditions cruise. The cruise company’s vessels house curated selections of artefacts and artworks from destinations they visit, such as tribal warrior masks from Papua New Guinea.
In July 2019, Coral Expeditions was one of the major sponsors of the Cairns Indigenous Art Fair. There, they met with artists and purchased and commissioned artworks for the onboard gallery of the Coral Geographer.
