Throughout the month of August, Thailand’s leading hotel operator Centara Hotels & Resorts is participating in an innovative new charity operation to collect and distribute surplus food to people in need.
The operation, ThaiHarvest|SOS is a joint initiative with OzHarvest, Australia’s leading food rescue charity whose proven and successful “Food Rescue” model has been adopted around the world.
The programme’s mission is not only to eliminate hunger and food waste through the re-distribution of quality surplus food, this initiative also aspires to educate people about the problem and opportunity of food waste.
“As we prepare food for our guests, unavoidably at the end of each day we have surplus – for example, bakery items or excess from a large banquet,” Centara Hotels & Resorts corporate director of food and beverage Winfried Hancke says.
“It is a shame to let this food go to waste when there are so many people who could benefit from it.”
Centara Hotels & Resorts is donating surplus food from its two Bangkok properties, Centara Grand at CentralWorld, and Ladprao with the hopes that eventually all of its 66 deluxe and first-class properties will contribute to the ThaiHarvest|SOS initiative.
These main two properties will also arrange an event called “Master Class Dinner”, led by Will and Steve, the winners of My Kitchen Rules in 2015.
