The Bolhão Market in the beautiful medieval city of Porto provides fleeting glimpses at Old World Europe, so long as you keep your eyes open. On the weekend this beautiful mult-tiered market bustles with garrulous vendors and visitors on the lookout for fresh fruits and veggies, smoked meats, cheeses and some of Portugal’s most beautiful flowers. Keep your eyes peeled for some of Bolhão’s quirky delights, like the vegetable vendor who dresses up her stall with plastic baby dolls, and the sausage vendor who sings to customers as he wraps his meat. And don’t skip the Port wine shop, where you can haggle over hundred-year-old bottles that retail for more than $5,000 (or pick something off the $5 bottom shelf).
