The annual Holiday with Kids Best Resorts Awards have been released and based on the results, it’s evident that Queensland is family favourite when it comes to Australia.
In Australia, resorts were divided into two categories: under 4-stars and above 4-stars; and Queensland resorts took out the top three places in both.
Australia’s favourite family resort above 4-stars was Sea World Resort & Waterpark on the Gold Coast. Followed by JW Marriott Gold Coast Resort & Spa and RACV Noosa Resort.
Meanwhile, in 4-stars and under, Paradise Resort Gold Coast took out the title for the 10th consecutive year. As the only resort in Australia with a water park, ice rink, laser tag and kids’ club, this comes as no surprise. In second place was Novotel Sunshine Coast Resort and in third place, Oaks Sunshine Coast resort.
In fact, of the combined 25 winning resorts in both categories, 15 resorts were based in Queensland.
Best resorts for families in Asia
With Asia being a popular destination for Aussie families, the Best Resort Awards also covers family favourites in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Japan.
Unsurprisingly, Bali was the winning destination when it came to Indonesia. Resorts in Bali took out the top three spots in both the over 4-stars and the 4-stars and under categories. Respectively, the winners were The Westin Resort Nusa Dua, Bali and the Bali Dynasty Resort in Kuta.

Shangri-La resorts were also a clear favourite, taking out the top three spots in Malaysia and the top two spots in Singapore.
The winning resort in Japan was Tokyo Disneyland Hotel, while in Thailand it was the beachside Katathani Phuket Beach Resort.
Other notable favourites in Asia, which fell under the ‘other international’ category were The Anam in Vietnam (2nd), followed by Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel.
Other International winners
Other destination categories included Fiji, South Pacific, USA, Hawaii and a general international category.
Due to its popularity, the resorts in Fiji were divided into three categories.
Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort was voted the best family resort over four stars with readers praising the thatched-roof bungalows, caring nanny service and variety of watersports.
VOMO Island Resort was voted the best luxury resort with 50 rooms or less. This incredible resort is set over two islands and has just 28 villas and four private residences.
Plantation Island Resort was the top pick for Holidays with Kids readers in the under 4-stars category thanks to the three swimming pools, watersports and 24-hour nanny service.
Vanuatu was the clear winner in the South Pacific, taking out the top two positions with Warwick Le Legon and the Holiday Inn Resort.
In Hawaii, seven of the ten winners were located in Oahu, including the top three, with Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort the overall winner.
In the USA, resorts within proximity of Disneyland were among the top picks for families with Disneyland Hotel Anaheim voted number one. Legoland California Hotel was also a hit, coming in at number three.
Winning the top spot in the ‘other international category’ was Atlantis, The Palm Dubai for another year in a row. Families can’t seem to get enough of this expansive aquatic wonderland featuring an Adventure Waterpark, bowling alley and 23 restaurants on offer.
It’s safe to say, when international travel resumes, these are the family-friendly resorts to keep in mind.
