Launching May 2017, South America’s first luxury sleeper train will travel through some of the most beautiful scenery in the world along one of the highest rail routes on earth.
Belmond Andean Explorer will journey through the Peruvian Andes from Cusco to Lake Titicaca and Arequipa, exploring natural wonders and ancient kingdoms on one and two night journeys.
A selection of four itineraries are available, including ‘Peruvian Highlands’, a two-night, three-day journey, departing from Cusco, the capital of the ancient Inca Empire, travelling across the highest plains of the Andes and reaching 4,800 metres in altitude, to Puno where guests can visit the remote villages and floating islands on Lake Titicaca. The journey then continues onwards to the city centre of Arequipa, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with highlights including the chance to explore the dramatic Colca Canyon.
The ‘Spirit of the Andes’ journey offers an overnight escape itinerary which traverses the Altiplano from Lake Titicaca to Cusco, and is fully inclusive of all meals, an open bar, and scheduled excursions.
Inside, the luxurious sleeper train accommodates for 68 guests in refined, en-suite cabins, including two double cabins, 20 twin cabins, and 12 bunk-bed cabins, featuring interior designs are inspired by the unique nature and scenery of the Perubian Andes for a sense of connection.
Fresh, seasonal menus, using local ingredients are created by the chefs at Belmond Hotel Monasterio in Cusco and served in the two Dining Cars, with the Observation Car featuring an open-air deck as the ideal place from which to enjoy the dramatic views.
Belmond Andean Explorer will be Belmond’s eights luxury train, joining Belmond Hiram Bingham in Peru, Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, Europe, Belmond Royal Scotsman, UK and Belmond Grand Hibernian which is expected to launch in Ireland in summer 2016.
