Fun and frivolity at Aspen Gay Ski Week

Snowfalls, sunshine, après ski, cultural events, panel discussions and the Downhill Costume competition meant there was much to celebrate.

Rainbow clad masses descended upon the town of Aspen, Colorado in the USA this January to celebrate Aspen Gay Ski Week. Around 5,000 people attended the week-long celebration of all things LGBTQ+ with events like a pool party with lazy river ride, water slides, a “Pose” party on a 3,350 metre mountain top, comedy evenings and a Big Gay Ice Show complete with gliding drag queens.

Aspen Gay Ski Week

The slopes were full of multi-coloured cheer, the parties were legendary, and most importantly, they raised money for the Aspen Snowmass local LGBTQ+ nonprofit, @AspenOUT. From fresh tracks to fab après events – Aspen Snowmass thanks all for coming out to celebrate love during the 47th Aspen Gay Ski Week, the world’s longest-running gay ski week.

A highlight was the annual Downhill Costumer event last Friday. Teams skied a short way down the bottom of the final pitch and tried to put on a show for the judges and the lively audience that packed the area near the Silver Queen Gondola.

And, as has become custom, the team from Snowmass Tourism again took the win. This was their sixth straight downhill costume contest victory, dating back to their first in 2018. This year, Snowmass Tourism went with the theme of “Bring it On”, with most skiers adorned in cheerleading outfits.

Gay Ski Week in Aspen continues the tradition of winter sports

With a vibrant celebration of LGBTQ+ culture, participants enjoyed a week-long extravaganza filled with skiing and snowboarding on Aspen’s picturesque slopes. Complemented by various social events including themed parties, après-ski gatherings, and entertainment showcasing LGBTQ+ talent.

Aspen Gay Ski Week provides a space for individuals from the LGBTQ+ community to come together, celebrate diversity, and embrace the freedom to express themselves authentically. Against the backdrop of Aspen’s stunning scenery, attendees enjoy epic winter sports that are more than multi-coloured – and the opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals from around the world.
