American Express has introduced its new American Express Explorer Credit Card, created especially for those who have a case of the travel bug.

With the majority of American Express members using their Membership Rewards points to pay for travel, and Aussies’ insatiable wanderlust on the rise, the Card is designed to fast track customers to their next destination and is jam-packed with traveller-conscious features and benefits.

“The holiday or travel experience you might not have factored into your budget could have paid for itself by simply using your credit card and with an accelerated rate to earn points and $400 travel credit each year, we’ve designed the American Express Explorer card for those who want to get to their next holiday sooner,” American Express Australia & New Zealand vice president consumer products Austin Huntsdale says.

In addition to the annual $400 Travel Credit to spend on flights, hotels, car hire or experiences at American Express Travel Online, the card comes with an introductory offer of 100,000 Membership Rewards Points, which alone could get you on your way to Hong Kong, Singapore, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and many other destinations.

The card also gives you more flexibility, with the option to transfer your points to a choice of eight airline partners loyalty programs, which include Air New Zealand Airpoints, Velocity Frequent Flyer, Emirates Skywards, Asia Miles, Etihad Guest, Malaysian Airlines Enrich, THAI Royal Orchid Plus, and Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer.

Other perks include travel and car insurance, airport lounge access at Sydney International Airport, and Smartphone screen insurance for up to $500 when you pay for your phone or contract with your Card – very handy, as American Express Card Members have access to all three digital wallets – Android Pay, Apple Pay and Samsung Pay.

In related news, new insights from the latest travel research conducted by American Express show that Aussies may be wishing for a white Christmas with a significant shift towards getaways to colder climates, with snowy destinations such as Aspen and Whistler topping the wishlist, and Vancouver and New York not far behind.

Overall, this year’s top in-demand destinations include Los Angeles, Miami, London, Rome, Singapore and Hong Kong, alongside local getaways to Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, which continue to appeal to those wanting to holiday closer to home.
