Budding designers and architects this is your calling. Airbnb has announced they are giving away $1.5 million to ten lucky entrepreneurs who can come up with the wildest and wackiest livable space.
The prize money will then go towards turning their fantasy into reality and building their unconventional home.
The competition will be judged by an expert panel of design and style innovators, including Emmy, Tony, and GRAMMY award-winning actor Billy Porter, Airbnb Superhost Kristie Wolfe who was behind the famed Big Idaho Potato Hotel, and global and cutting-edge architecture firm MVRDV.
So what are they looking for?
- Creativity: think outside the box, offer up plenty of surprises and consider unusual shapes, locations or designs with a story.
- Feasibility: while it may be your fantasy home, it still needs to be feasible and functional and within the budget of $100,000.
- Sustainable construction: Think about how you can use recycled materials and incorporate innovative ways to keep the footprint light.
- Spaces for social good: how space will benefit guests, neighbours, or the community at large?
How to enter:
Design enthusiasts can submit their proposals at airbnb.com/uniquefund. Entries for the Unique Airbnb Fund are open from now until 1:59pm AEST on April 16, 2020. The ten winners will be announced by May 15, 2020. For more information, see the Official Rules.
