Lirrwi Tourism is all about delivering ‘Adventures in Culture’.
They specialise in bringing people together to share the culture and traditions of the Yolŋu people in East Arnhem Land.
On one-day and multi-day tours Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people can connect and build a better understanding between the two cultures.
Gululu – “Welcome”
Visitors will be welcomed to Yolŋu Country region of Miwatj – land that has been passed down from generation to generation.
The Yolŋu people are the traditional owners of the sea and of the inland areas. And Lirrwi Tourism invites travellers to come and explore their culture, sit with them, hear their stories, walk with them and exchange knowledge.
The tours will see travellers spend time with the Yolŋu people, living and working on their traditional homelands.
One-day tours are the perfect cultural introduction to Yolngu country. While multi-day adventures allow travellers to become part of a small family community and learn about their customs and daily routines.
Cultural experiences include weaving, traditional spearfishing, gathering of bush foods and medicine, dance (Bunggul), storytelling, and learning how the Yidaki (didjeridu) is made and played.
Learn about kinship, the two moieties Yirritja and Dhuwa and how this connects the Yolŋu people to the land, to each other and to the universe.
In the Yolngu culture, it’s traditional for men and women to undertake activities separately, which is why Lirrwi Tourism also run women-only tours.
The Gay’wu women’s tour provides female visitors with the opportunity to come together with their Yolŋu sisterhood and learn about the female way of life, their culture, history and country.
Tours are suitable for all ages and fitness levels.
