NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian says firefighters and frontline health workers will be given priority access to the best vantage spots to watch the Sydney NYE fireworks.
“2020 has been a tough year for everyone,” Berejiklian said.
“New Year’s Eve celebrations will be a symbol of hope and optimism for next year.”
“It is also an opportunity to thank people across NSW who have stepped up during this difficult time.”
“Key areas of the harbour will be reserved for frontline workers only.”
Those areas are expected to include Circular Quay and Mrs Macquarie’s Chair.
The family-friendly 9pm NYE fireworks have been cancelled for 2020, meaning only the midnight show will go head.
Sydney NYE events will be allowed to go ahead as long as they follow coronavirus restrictions.
That includes limits on the number of guests, the use of QR codes and social distancing rules.
