Leaving their eco-footprint firmly entrenched in the Maldives’ pristine region is Banyan Tree Vabbinfaru, which opened its forward thinking Marine Lab in 2004. With a focus on protecting the pristine coral reefs and green sea turtle hatchlings, and creating a memorable experience for guests, The Marine Lab was the first of its kind to be funded and built at a private resort.
Inviting guests to join specially trained in-house divers to monitor programs such as reef and species inventory checks, guests can also sponsor their coral gardens. And for budding marine biologists, the lab is equipped to conduct research in coral biology and ecology as well as green sea turtle conservation. One of the EarthCheck Certified resorts in the Maldives, Banyan Tree Vabbinfaru also introduced a hydroponic herb garden to add to the guests’ gourmet feasts.
