Sydney's new airport hotel takes off

Rydges Sydney Airport Hotel is perfectly positioned for business and leisure travellers who require an overnight stopover ahead of catching a connecting flight in Sydney.

On the tarmac
Located at the international terminal at Sydney Airport – the hotel is a mere 181 steps to the check-in counters. I don’t count my steps but it is such a pleasure to just have to walk across the road to start my long journey to New York, rather than wake up at the crack of dawn and transfer from a city hotel in Sydney’s traffic-clogged streets.

Given I live in Brisbane, it is also lovely to relax in the hotel, rather than gamble on a very early flight from Brisbane to make my connection. As the hotel has a free shuttle bus to the domestic terminal, even that short connection was a breeze.

Rooms with a view
Suited for both business and leisure travellers, all 318 rooms and suites have views either over the city, Botany Bay or airport where the planes take off. Each room features comfortable Dream Beds, black-out curtains, all-natural bathroom products, beautiful photographs depicting various Sydney icons and access to 24-hour services including a fully-equipped gymnasium.

The self-service kiosks add to an easy check-in process at one of Australia’s busiest airport hotels, which helps to decrease time in another queue. I am thrilled with my King Suite Airport View Room, and spend far too long watching planes flying in or out.

Eat and relax
Hungry travellers are not left wanting. The Touchdown Sports Bar, next to the lobby, offers a wide range of beverages and foods in a casual venue. Blackwattle Grill is the hotel’s signature restaurant open for breakfast and dinner with a range of dining options for those that want a quick snack or a longer laidback mealtime.

Cloud 9, on the rooftop, is just the place for plane spotters to enjoy a cocktail, relax and shake off any travel stress with views across the runway, Botany Bay and Sydney’s city skyline.

Business to leisure
Meeting facilities include 11 flexible rooms and, if time is short, check out ‘Quickmeet’, a relatively new concept that allows small room rentals by the hour or day. Free Wi-Fi and a well-equipped business centre further enhances the hotel facilities as a one-stop shop with every room offering a view. And for those who want to get in a workout before or after a long flight, the hotel has a large 24-hour gym. rydges.com
