You’d be forgiven for thinking that this 2D cafe is just a drawing.
But it is in fact a real cafe. When you dine inside, it will make you feel like you’re living in a cartoon.
The unusual 2D cafe uses clever interior design tricks to make the real three-dimensional world look flat.
All the flat surfaces of the furniture inside are white. While sketch-like black stripes have been painted on the furniture edges.
The result is an optical illusion that fools your eyes into thinking they’re looking at the pages of a sketchbook.
Some of the 2D Cafe interiors isn’t total trickery. The outlines of doors, lamps, books and windows on the wall really are just two-dimensional paintings.
The 2D Cafe is in Tokyo’s Shin Okubo neighbourhood.
It has become a hit with visitors who flock to the spot for Instagram-worthy snaps.
We must admit anything pops against the black and white background.
As for the menu, things are a little more conventional. The 2D Cafe serves tea, coffee and fruit juices alongside their speciality – bubble tea.
You certainly couldn’t go past one of their shaved ice desserts topped with fruit and whipped cream.
