Belmond Mount Nelson looks as though it’s been yanked straight from a Wes Anderson movie. Its pastel pinks and gentle greens are set softly against the blue sky and famous backdrop of Cradle Mountain. Countless famous guests have stayed at the hotel including Sir Winston Churchill, Nelson Mandela, John Lennon, Queen Elizabeth II and the Dalai Lama. Full of old-world charm, the hotel has been a popular favourite in South Africa for decades.
In order to celebrate 100 years of the hotel’s pretty pink hue and the end of WWI in 1919, the Belmond Mount Nelson will be hosting a series of guest experiences throughout 2019. General Manager Xavier Lablaude says, “Our beautiful lady was painted pink 100 years ago to demonstrate friendship, harmony, and peace – in doing so, the Italian General Manager at the time created a timeless icon and we are proud that this legacy lives on today.”
The Tea Lounge offers Afternoon Tea which features delights such as wild berry tea Turkish Delight, raspberry-filled white truffles, pink macarons, strawberry meringues, pink pavlova and pink filled éclairs. Also available will be the Mount Nelson tea, an exclusive blend of six international teas from Africa and Asia, flavoured with the buds and rose petals. At the Planet Bar, sensibly sip on a pink gin and tonic made with Cape Town Pink Lady Gin infused with hibiscus and rose water.
Those looking to relax further can head to Librisa Spa for a fragrant rose-petal oil massage, designed to enhance deep relaxation. An art exhibition will also be on display onsite. ‘Touch of Pink’ is curated by Cyril Coetzee and features 40 paintings by local artists. A quarter of the proceeds are donated to the Breast Cancer Association.
The two-night Belmond Touch of Pink package is available until 8 November 2019. The package includes accommodation, buffet breakfast, afternoon tea for two, Rose Petal massages for two and a bottle of sparking pink wine. The package starts at R14,650 (approx. A$1420)
